February 29, 2012 Contact: Gloria Reyes Rellief For Those Who Need It Most On February 29 Orange County United Way’s (OCUW) new financial empowerment center, SparkPoint OC, made its debut following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at ABRAZAR, Inc., an OCUW partner located in Westminster. SparkPoint OC is designed to spark new hope for Orange County individuals and families by providing financial resources to improve their quality of life. This one-stop financial stability center provides long-term, case-managed services from key financial leaders, while enabling clients to reach their economic goals. “It’s great to see ABRAZAR partner with strong community partners to help families become self-sufficient,” said Sergio Contreras, Westminster School Board President. “When working families succeed our entire community succeeds.” The ribbon cutting ceremony opened with a welcome from President and CEO of OCUW, Max Gardner. Gardner’s welcome was followed by remarks from CEO and COO of ABRAZAR, Gloria Reyes and Mario Ortega and representatives from the offices of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and California Assemblyman Jose Solorio. Other featured speakers included Gregg Martin from The Boeing Company, a major investor of SparkPoint OC. Martin presented a check for $227,000 to support both SparkPoint OC and Banking on the Future. Representatives from Wells Fargo, Citibank, and Union Bank also showed their support with donations that will help to ensure families in Orange County get on the path to financial stability and independence. Within the first year, SparkPoint OC aims to turn around the financial lives of 100 families to enable them to get on the right track to improved financial stability. SparkPoint OC brings together the services of 18 Orange County organizations and financial institutions, eight OCUW partner agencies and 10 financial institutions, under one roof to help families improve credit scores, reduce debt, build income and grow assets.
