Respite Care
Last year, ABRAZAR provided respite care services for more than 20 families and individuals caring for frail seniors in collaboration with the Orange County Caregiver Resource Center.
Respite care is short-term care given to a hospice patient by another caregiver, so that a family member or friend who is the patient's caregiver can rest or take time off. This type of care was created to allow caregivers time away from administering care, with the goal to help the caregivers have lower stress and at the same time fill the needs of the individual receiving care.
Another example of respite care is Adult Day Care. These programs are designed to provide care and companionship for frail and disabled persons who need assistance or supervision during the day. The program offers relief to family members or caregivers and allows them the freedom to go to work, handle personal business or just relax while knowing their relative is well cared for and safe.
Early Intervention Services for Older Adults (EISOA)
The Multi-Ethnic Collaborative of Community Agencies (MECCA) is a coalition of community-based service providers with a vision of improving the quality of life for underserved multicultural communities.
MECCA’s Early Intervention Services for Older Adults Program targets adults 60 years of age and older who are experiencing the early onset of mental health conditions or those who are at an increased risk of developing mental health conditions. The program reaches out to unserved or underserved older adults who are isolated due to social, cultural and linguistic barriers. The program works to increase the use of mental health services, decrease the stigma of receiving such services and reach underserved individuals with appropriate services in order for them to embrace their mental wellness.
Program Services are provided at no cost and include:
- Comprehensive in-home assessment
- Case management
- Socialization, support and educational groups such as ESL and Therapeutic Arts
- Referral to resources and services such as counseling, therapy and food distribution services

"I didn't know how costly health care was going to be. My wife needs dialysis three times a week and I didn't know what I would do if I had to order an ambulance every week. ABRAZAR's drivers always help us get to the appointments on time and are always so polite and helpful. Your Transportation Program is a lifesaver."
